Course Learning Outcomes

Cervical Artery Dissection

By the completion of this module, the practitioner will be able to:

1. Understand the potential relationship between Cervical Spinal Manipulative Therapy (CSMT) and Cervical Artery Dissection (CAD).

2. Understand the indications and contraindications for the use of CSMT for neck pain, headache and migraine.

3. Be able to explain to patients and stakeholders the potential risks and benefits of cervical SMT, especially relating to neck pain, headache and migraine conditions.

4. Understand and be able to implement appropriate measures to reduce the risk of adverse events occurring with CSMT.

Peter Tuchin

Peter Tuchin was employed at Macquarie University for over 27 years and has recently retired as Associate Professor. Peter’s areas of interest and research include the relationship of posture with neck pain, headaches and migraine, chronic pain syndromes, and the relationship of vertebral artery dissection stroke with chiropractic. Peter is Past President of COCA, has over 60 papers published, and received several international research awards. Peter also conducted one of the largest RCT’s on chiropractic and migraine to date. Peter has also maintained a private practice in Chiropractic and has treated many patients over his 30 years in clinic. Peter was recently made a member of the WFC Disability and Rehabilitation Committee, which is an international committee with many prestigious members. Peter also received Life Membership of COCA in 2017, for 25 years on the National Executive.
