Course Details
Mike Swain discusses the prevalence, trajectories and incorrect causative assumptions surrounding adolescent spinal pain. Adolescents account for 10% of the overall spinal pain burden in Australia, the cost of such estimated to be 4.79 billion in 2012, with 5-30% of adolescents having an increasing trajectory throughout adolescence.
Many of the commonly assumed physical risk factors, such as back pack use and sedentary behavioural patterns have been shown in recent research to have little impact on adolescent back pain, instead psychosocial factors are found to be the greatest risk factor for onset of pain.
